Question:

Is Jesus trying to save the world now? Is this our only chance for salvation now?

Ulysses

Answer:

Dear Ulysses,

What exactly do you mean? If not now, when? If not in the past, when? Another related question might be, if someone does not see evidence that salvation is being offered, does that mean that God has revealed to us that he will not act to redeem unless and until he shows us evidence and proof?

I believe that God is righteous, just, and merciful – I believe that all have fair and equitable opportunity for salvation – and that he ensures that. I do not know how – for he has not chosen to reveal all those details to anyone, and certainly not me. If we are concerned that someone has died and that God has not ministered his grace to them, then we have several options:

1) Trust that God is God and that he is no respecter of persons.

2) Believe that God will make provision for all – either that he has, or if he has not, that somehow he will – but that we will not be aware of it on this side of eternity.

3) Determine that some future time will be allotted for such evangelism because God’s plan was never to save the world during what we know as history. Some believe this – but there no biblical evidence for believing it.

God does not make all of his plans, strategies, and ways known to us – He never told us he would. But he does make his salvation available – and sometimes he even allows us to be tools in his hands to help make it known to others.

In Christ,
