Question: What about Mary? Catholics believe she was raised from the dead. I thought Jesus was the only one raised after death? And are there angels walking around earth? Or are people today just imagining these spirits? Could it be the devil in disguise?

Deborah

Answer: Dear Deborah,

The Bible is clear that Jesus is the only one who has been resurrected to eternal life, and to a glorified body that is beyond corruption, aging, and immune to death. The Bible records others who were resurrected, only to be claimed by the grave again.

The Bible records that angels were manifested in the likeness of humans in order to do God’s work – many examples, especially in the Old Testament. However, it is not helpful for Christians to be superstitious/over-concerned about the presence of angels. Rather, we are to treat all men and women as if they were Jesus Christ (Matthew 25:31-46) and we are to entertain (be hospitable to) all people, even strangers, "for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it" (Hebrews 13:2). Notice "not knowing it" – determining who/what/when/where/why about angels is not a central emphasis of the Christian life.

Hope this helps,

In Christ,
