Question: Mr. Albrecht,
Can a person overcome self-defeating issues that they have grown up with by believing in Christ, i.e. lack of self confidence, fear of success etc.?
Jamie
Answer: Jamie,
Of course! The key in this issue is that Christians find that Christ is their new identity, and that he has done for them what they can never do for themselves. Our world is competitive, filled with false values about what it means to be successful. We are continuously told in our media that beauty, intelligence, power, and money are what it takes to make us significant.
But the Bible tells us that Jesus died for you and me on the cross and that event is what makes us significant. We can never become significant by our own efforts no one can, no matter how many awards and achievements our culture might bestow on them. The fact that God so loved the world (John 3:16) is the very foundation of the gospel, and we can find the love, understanding, and significance we all desire at the cross.
I hope this will be of some help to you, and that you might consider what Jesus Christ means to you. Please let me know if I can be of further help in telling you more about the personal relationship that you can have with your Lord and Savior!
In Christ,
Greg Albrecht
