Question: As I was reading some of the questions about the Sabbath, I personally believe that the Sabbath is still meant to be remembered, not only because it is part of God’s moral law which is eternal, but also because it is our set aside time to remember God as creator of the world. Time that God created for that purpose.

No, it would be wrong to say that Sabbath observance makes us more "holy", but I think it is proper to say that God has set the days up according to his "great" purpose. A study in church history would open anyone’s eyes to how Sunday came to replace Saturday as the "Christian" Sabbath! The Catholics still believe that they alone have the authority to make such a change. No human being has the authority to make such a change. No human being has the authority to change what God has ordained as "holy". And that, of course, would include Constantine! Jesus never states to observe the resurrection, only his body and blood at the end of the Passover feast.

Answer: Dear Bonita,

You are quite correct – no human being can change the day from Saturday to Sunday. That is precisely why the "replacement" idea is incorrect. The day was never changed. It was simply made irrelevant, and not by any human, but by Jesus. God in the flesh. Days of worship are not relevant since Jesus is our rest – see Hebrews, Galatians, Romans, and Colossians, as well as the Gospels. The Sabbath is not the sign of Christians – the cross and the empty tomb are the sign of/for Christians. Neither Saturday nor Sunday is holy time and neither can be "broken", and neither must be "kept" (as a requirement for salvation).

Hope this helps, Bonita.

In Christ,
