Question: I was baptized Mormon 5 years ago. But I no longer go there. My question is: If I were to get baptized into another church would I be committing sin? Please reply.
Thanks.
Marion
Answer: Dear Marion,
You are asking me, a Christian, about whether baptism would amount to sinning. On the basis of all that I know and believe from the Bible, baptism is not a sin. In fact, it is a command, for those who trust and believe in our Lord and Savior. In some respects it is about as far from sin as one could get!
I am not aware of what Mormons teach about this issue, and my answer may be in direct conflict. If it is, then the Mormon teaching will have to take issue with Holy Scripture.
Perhaps your question, though, is not about baptism an outward act. But what does it symbolize? Why get baptized? Why be baptized again? And, do you know that baptism is not "into a church" but "into Christ"? Some questions you might wish to think about, and do some study about from the Bible.
May God bless you, Marion, as you seek him.
In Christ,
