Question: Who are the Kenites and how did they come to be?

Earl

Answer: Dear Earl,

Moses’ father-in-law, Reuel (see Ex. 2) also called Jethro (see Ex. 18) was a Kenite (see Judges 1:16). By reason of their relationship with Moses they enjoyed a closer relationship with Israel than other non-Israelitish tribes – both Saul and David had dealings with them. Some speculate that Moses was given his "religion" from his father-in-law, as opposed to the divine encounter at the fiery bush and the divine relationship Moses enjoyed, as reported in the Bible.

In Christ,
