Question: Dear Greg,
Who is the woman in Rev. 12:1-2? I heard a minister say this is the Holy Spirit. The Apostles Creed says Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of Mary? What do you say?
In Christian faith,
Dennis
Answer: Dennis,
The identity of the woman in Rev. 12:1-2 depends upon the denominational tradition of the individual Christian, upon the viewpoint that is accepted of apocalyptic literature, and whether they adopt a preterist, futurist, post, a, or pre-mill view of eschatology. I am not aware of any teaching that this woman is God, the Holy Spirit, third person of the Trinity.
Interpretations of the woman within Christianity varies between the church (most popular) as well as the heavenly Jerusalem, the mother of us all, wisdom personified, or Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Plain Truth Ministries accepts and believes the orthodox teaching given in the Nicene Creed regarding Jesus, "incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary. For more about the woman in Revelation 12:1-2, read my book, Revelation Revolution, available on the PTM website.
In Christ,
