Question: We have had several people in our family tell us that the Bible says in the last days there will be seven girls to one boy. We have not read that before so could you help us out on this as we have no idea what to tell them.

Answer: Dear Bonita,

The passage you have reference to is Isaiah 4:1: "In that day seven women will take hold of one man…". This verse had reference to the fact that men were killed in battle, and that women were "desperate" for a marriageable man. The passage found its fulfillment in the history of Israel in the Old Testament. However, some believe that a similar thing will happen in the near future. This is not clear from biblical teaching. What is clear is that such has happened in many war-ravaged countries and cultures over the past two thousand years, and it is historically documented. In fact, such a situation exists in some places on the earth right now – and perhaps the Bible is referring to those situations as well. If it happens again and again, such a thing would not be a surprise, for man’s inhumanity to his fellow man results in such a situation.
