Question: You seem to say in your "Ask Greg" answers that we dont have to keep the commandments. If this is true, what else is sin if it is not killing, stealing, lying, etc. what is wrong with not killing or not stealing? We would not need jails.
Glen
Answer: Dear Glen,
Please accept our apologies if our answers seem to imply such a thing. Most of our answers are specifically about the ten commandments and under that name, they are simply part of the old covenant that was ended at the cross. The New Testament makes clear how each of the ten commandments applies in the life of the Christian, but never does the New Testament imply or state that the ten commandments, as stated in the old covenant, are required for Christians. Those commandments you mention are reiterated in the new covenant in fact they are magnified and Christians are told that Christ in them will help them fulfill the spirit and intent of these commandments, not just the letter, which was required under the old covenant.
Hope this helps clarify.
In Christ,
Greg Albrecht
