Question: Matthew 5 proclaims that the law can never be broken or pass away! Jesus came to fulfill prophesy not to change anything. The law is the law for Jew and Christian alike!

Answer: Jesus told us in this same chapter, in what are called the antithetical statement, "It has been said by those of old (followed by a quote from the Hebrew scriptures) and then followed by Jesus statement, "But I say unto you ."
Who was this man, Jesus, who dared to place himself above the law? John 5:18 tells us that the religious leaders of his day tried to kill him because he not only "broke" the Sabbath but because he called God his Father, making himself equal with God.
Jesus was and is (he is risen) Emmanuel (also in Matthew see chapter one, verse 23 a fulfillment of a prophesy given to Isaiah) Jesus is Emmanuel God with us. God in the flesh. In Jesus God came to us, adding flesh to his divinity that he might rescue us and save us.
Jesus Christ is Lord not the law. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
In Christ,
