Question: Hi Greg,

The Plain Truth Ministries web page is a great work of God. Question: Some that I know real well are studying and accepting "the Bible Code" and "The Signature of God" books and the application of ELS as valid and necessary for Christians. I have deep reservations about this and even feel that it is very dangerous! Can you comment on this teaching which seems to have wide acceptance?

Answer: Dear Ken,

The "Bible Code" and its many variants to which you refer is not a new heresy, it is simply a warmed up leftover. The basic idea behind such claims is that there is superior knowledge and insight available only to those who "know" and "understand" – to those who have the "code" – those who have been given the "decoder". This ancient heresy is called Gnosticism – and is a heresy that is combated in the New Testament and continues to be in the early church. Colossians and the Epistles of John speak to Gnosticism. You are certainly correct to have deep reservations about such an idea.
