Question: What does freedom in Christ mean?

Answer: Dear Ken,

Freedom in Christ means release from the sin that so easily plagues humans so that we are delivered to do his will. Freedom is not only "from" – but is also "for". Freedom in Christ also means deliverance from human traditions and religion, but does not imply freedom to do as one wishes. Freedom in Christ is freedom that allows believers to be his workmanship (Ephesians 2:10) – being tools in his hand to display the works that Christ brings forth in our lives. We are not saved BY our works, we are saved FOR works. Salvation is by grace alone – but having been saved, Christ works in us so that we might be salt and light in the world, allowing others to see the light of Christ that we reflect. We do not generate the light – Christ does that – but we are used to reflect it. To God goes the glory.
