Question: Dear Sir,
I am studying the Old Testament and trying to understand the Scriptures where it talks about Jesus coming to earth. I sometime get mixed up in reading Psalms because sometimes it sounds like King David is talking about himself. Could you suggest any good reading concerning the Old Testament prophecies about Jesus and his life?
Thanks!
Jim
Answer: Dear Jim,
Most good study Bibles Zondervans for the NIV and Nelson for the New King James are helpful in pointing out Messianic references in the Old Testament. Virtually all biblical prophecy is concerned with either the first or second coming of Christ so that one can assume that some reference to Christ (direct or indirect) may be found in most Old Testament prophecies. No one source springs to mind as a source but most current and contemporary Bible helps commentaries, backgrounds, etc. take such a perspective and help provide valuable insight. Plain Truth Ministries produces a Bible study/devotional titled Experiencing the Word a Daily Devotional Journey Through the Bible which provides these insights. A visit to the Old Testament section of a seminary library or a Bible bookstore would be also helpful.
In Christ
