Question: My question is Are we as humans created eternal as we are now? Many believe that we were created with eternal spirits. Does the Bible show that we were created with eternal spirits?
Thank you and God bless you.

Answer: Dear Elizabeth,
The Bible does not categorically state that our soul (or spirit) is immortal. However, the Bible does regard the soul/spirit as having an existence outside of the body, which dies and decomposes in the grave. In so doing the Bible does teach that humans have a physical "dimension" and a spiritual/non-physical dimension that survives human death.
The usual discussion concerns the "disposition" of the soul or spirit at the death of the body. Some believe that the soul sleeps while others believe the soul is conscious. In either case, the presumption, given the biblical evidence, is that the soul/spirit is not dead and/or decomposing as is the body.
The Bible is clear that those who are dead in Christ will rise from the grave at his Second Coming, and that their bodies will be reunited with the non-physical essence (call it soul or spirit) and that their bodies will be made immortal at that time (see 1 Corinthians 15).
In Christ,
