Question: Why is the King James Bible regarded so highly?
Mark
Answer: Dear Mark,
Two thoughts: 1) The King James Version enjoyed a virtual corner on the market for almost 300 years. When something is part of any religious system for that long, the form of the "thing" begins to be revered, often more than the substance it teaches, symbolizes or conveys. Any change is resisted, often with fanatical zeal. 2) The arrival of new and more contemporary versions came at the same time as many cultural innovations that some conservative and "fundamentalist" Christians rejected as ungodly "modernist" compromises with what they perceived as Gods teaching in the Bible. The KJV came to be, and remains for some, a symbol of uncompromising commitment to the "pure and unadulterated Word of God." Actually, some modern versions are better translations.
In Christ,
