Question: Greg,
I am 22 years old and know that I have A LOT to learn about my faith. Well, yesterday I engaged in a 1½ hour conversation with some Mormon guys. It was a pretty even exchange but one question I could not answer was about prophets. I know that biblical prophets expressed prophecy that was then fulfilled in Christ. However, how do I defend the idea that biblical prophets are no longer on the scene today?
Thanks!
Julia
Answer: Dear Julia,
The heart of your question seems to concern the uniqueness of the Bible. Mormons say that they accept the Bibles authority its just that they have another book in addition, the book of Mormon! But the Christian evidence is that no such book has been part of Christianity and that the Bible alone tells us all we need to know in order to understand God and his plan of salvation he freely gives us.
It seems that your discussion with these Mormons could center on the Bible its uniqueness, authority, inspiration, etc. There are many good books on this topic and even sections of books for example we offer general books by Little, titled Know What You Believe and Know Why You Believe which are excellent for general topics, and then there are more specific books about questions that Mormons often raise about Christianity.
Hope this is of some help.
In Christ,
Greg Albrecht
