Question: What purpose does sex serve for a Christian couple who are married? Is it only to "create another family out of love?" If so, what purpose does it serve for the Christian couple who, for medical and biological reasons, can’t have children. Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Answer: Dear Miguel,

It seems that your question comes from the concept that the only purpose of sex in marriage is for procreation/reproduction. It is true that some churches teach this, but the Bible does not specify that reproduction is the only purpose for sex in marriage. Based upon the accounts of marriage and teaching about marital love, there is no reason that we should not conclude that the Bible teaches and allows that sex also serves as an expression of love and of enjoyment within marriage.
