Question: Hello,
Im thinking about taking a philosophy class in order to graduate, but I found the Bible says it is not good for me to take that class. What can I do? (See Colossians 2:8).
Is Philosophy too dangerous for Christians? If so, then I should not take this class.
Thanks!
Chad
Answer: Dear Chad,
The passage you cite is not a condemnation of all philosophy but, in that context, the specific context of Colossians, philosophies of Gnosticism, Stoicism, etc.
There is no biblical prohibition of studying human philosophical notions such as atheism for example. In fact, it is necessary for many who are in active ministry to do so in order to combat popular teachings that influence modern humans (postmodernism being an example today).
In Christ,
