Question: I have two questions. First, can we sever our relationship with Christ? Second, can you explain Jude 12?
Thank you for the time. I know it takes time to answer all the many questions you get. It is much appreciated.
Delia
Answer: Dear Delia,
We have answered several questions about what some call "eternal security" you can access those answers if you click on "salvation".
Jude 12 is simply one verse in this brief book that continues the context of warning about those who were teaching heresy who had departed from the "faith once for all entrusted to the saints" (verse 3).
The book shows that the faith that was necessary for salvation had been imparted that no new "revelations" or "knowledge" was necessary and that there were those who were teaching contrary to the faith.
Verse 12 mentions "love feasts" times when the early Christians had meals together, celebrated their faith, prayed and discussed Christianity. The verse states that these times of spiritual fellowship had been infiltrated by false shepherds who did not (perhaps could not) provide spiritual food for the sheep of Gods pasture but could only feed themselves (the implication is that these false shepherds were starving the sheep, and misleading them for their own selfish reasons).
Hope this helps, Delia. Let us know if you have further questions.
In Christ,
Greg Albrecht
