Question: Dear Greg,

Are you telling me that Easter is not pagan in origin? I think you know better than that, now, don’t you?

Thomas

Answer: Dear Thomas,

Of course I know that Easter is pagan in origin. That fact is not in question – what one assumes based upon that fact is. Is the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior pagan?

Many words, such as Easter, are based upon pagan gods and goddesses - every day of the week, for example. Is it wrong to speak of Monday or Tuesday – or to pray on that day – or go to church – or have a baptism, etc., etc.? After all, the day and the name of the day are pagan in origin.

Christians did not use the word "Easter" to refer to their celebration of Jesus’ resurrection until the 8th century – did this word change their celebration into a pagan ceremony? Easter is called Pasha in Spain, Pasqua in Italy, and Pashka in Russia. Does that mean these celebrations are Jewish and not Christian?

If you really want the truth, and want to know more, and you live within the United States or Canada, I will be happy to send you a free booklet titled, "Easter – Is it Pagan?"

May God bless you,

Greg Albrecht
