Question: Dear Greg,

You’ve got to help me. I’ve been witnessing to my co-worker about Jesus. He says that I have to learn to accept that there are other people who have just as strong convictions about other religions and that they are just as certain that their religion is right. He says I could present all the facts in the world, but so could someone from another religion. How can I answer that?

Anna

Answer: Dear Anna,

Sharing your faith is not all about clever arguments, or having better answers than someone else does. Sharing your faith, at its core, is the opportunity to share a message and faith that is truly unique.

All world religions – the actual count is something like 40,000 – believe that the solution to human problems – our salvation – is either of the following:

    1. We save ourselves by the good things we do, the works we perform. Salvation is earned, given in return for our good deeds.
    2. We save ourselves by working together with Jesus Christ. In addition to what Christ does and did for us, combined with our good works, we can be saved.
    3. Salvation is by grace through faith. Christ has saved us, as he said, "The debt is paid."

The only "religion" that believes #3 is Christianity. Our job in life is not to find God. God came to this world in the person of Jesus to find us (John 3:16). That’s why the world gospel means "god news" – the gospel of Jesus Christ is good news! And there is no better news available anywhere!

Whether your friend will accept and believe the good news is yet to be seen, but the bottom line is that Christianity and all other world religions are not equally competing for human faith – there is no competition. Christianity alone is unique, and stands alone in the personal relationship with God that it offers.

    In Christ,

    Greg Albrecht
