Question:  I have been attending Baptist church for three years but when I disagree with something I tend to go back to Plain Truth magazine or your web page for answers.  Do you have any advice?

Answer:  Dear Delia,

We are pleased that God can use us to be of assistance to you, and while you feel more at home in the Baptist church, we are happy to be of whatever help we can.

One’s long-term church home is often a frame of reference - for better or for worse - when one attends a new church.  No church is perfect.  It could also be stated, “no church pleases everyone”.  That may be one reason why there are many denominations: to give us all a spiritual home that connects with our needs without compromising the core issues of the gospel.

The human tendency, one that all churches succumb to (and this is not a statement against Baptists in particular), is to major in the minors.  Soon we find that some distinctive looms large.  For many it seems reasonable, but some members of that church find it receiving more stress than it ought (whether it be the mode of baptism, whether the host of the communion is symbolic or literal, whether it is a “sin” to drink, smoke, dance, etc., etc., etc.

We address many of these kinds of questions on our web site, and try to show those issues that are central to the gospel, that are categorically part of the Bible’s teaching, as well as those that are peripheral, and about which Christians may differ.  And there are issues about which we can differ without being divisive, and without condemning all who do not agree with us to hellfire!!

Hope this helps – we will try to help you with specific questions – and you may want to take a look at the hundreds of questions and answers we have posted.

May God bless you and be with you!

            In Christ,
