Question:  Could you elaborate on how Christians are accountable?

            Scott

Answer:  Dear Scott,

In terms of Christian accountability, I would say that there are two areas:

1.      Our accountability to God.  Ultimately, the Bible is clear – Christians are under judgment, while at the same time being under grace.  We must not use grace as a license, for our accountability is ultimately to God who created us, to our Lord who owns us - having purchased us with his blood - and our Savior who saved us from our sin.

2.      As Christians, we are accountable to the body of Christ.  The head of the body of Christ is Jesus Christ himself – and we are all accountable to him as the head of the body, and to each other as parts of the body.  Being accountable means working together, in unity and humility (Phil. 2:1-5) – allowing others to do their part, without being jealous, without being combative, exclusive, vain, opinionated, or hyper-critical.  It means that we will not attack other parts of the body and seek to destroy, demean or devalue them.  It means that although we do not understand their exact function in the body, we do know that they stand or fall before the Master (Romans 14)

May God bless and be with you.

            In Christ,
