Question:  This is a belief I have heard for the first time and I would like to know your view on it.  I was told that the devil CANNOT read your mind.  He can only act on the things you say out loud.  The example I heard was someone that experienced bad dreams and during a dream once they demanded the evil spirit to leave in God’s name and then she quit talking about it.  She no longer has the bad dreams.  I would love to hear what you have to say and if you can recommend some passages on this topic.

Answer:  Dear Tricia,

            The Bible reveals that God does not control our mind.  On the other hand, Jesus knew what others were thinking, because he was God in the flesh.

            Satan is not God, of course.  The fact that he is spirit does not mean he is the same as God, for angels are also spirit.  Satan and the angels are created.  God is uncreated, for He is the Creator.

            Satan tempts us, he lies to us, and he deceives us.  He cannot do anything to us that we do not allow.  I John 4:4 – “Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.”
