Question:  Hello Greg,

I started reading the Bible in an effort to understand it as I imagine most people do.  I’m confused from the beginning.  In the beginning, God describes himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  And later on the God of Israel.  When or at what point did this God become the God of people like me.  Is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob concerned about me?  What right do I have to “claim” him?  Why am I deserving of being one of his chosen?  Please tell me where I can find my answer in the Bible.

            Thank you,

            Phyllis

Answer:  Dear Phyllis,

We would be happy to send you some booklets and reprint articles that could help you with this question – an excellent question.  In the Old Testament, God started to reveal himself to a specific group of people – the Hebrews.  Hence, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  This did not mean that God loved them more than other peoples, but simply that he had a plan – and the plan to reveal his love and his intention to all humanity involved his coming to earth in the person of Jesus.

It is through Jesus Christ that all humanity is able to come to know the one true God.  Jesus Christ is the way, the door, the key for all of us, as we struggle with the issues of life – and whether life has any meaning – whether God cares about us.

Time does not permit me to individually give you a complete answer – but we will be happy to send you some literature, our free magazine, and our monthly ministry letter of encouragement and inspiration.

Let me know if you are interested, and a postal address to which such materials can be sent.

            In Christ,

            Greg Albrecht
