Question:
I would like your opinion on the belief of the Seventh-Day
Adventists that it is a sin to eat pork and certain seafood.
In Leviticus chapter 11 it speaks of the clean and unclean animals.
But I just recently read in the book of Mark, chapter 7 where Jesus says
that what you eat won’t defile you. Food
doesn’t come in contact with your heart, but only passes through the stomach
and then comes out again. He says
that you are not defiled by what you eat, you are defiled by what you say and
do.
Donna
Answer: Dear Donna,
You
are on the right track. The dietary laws of the old covenant are not binding or
required for Christians today – Mark 7, as you mention, is a passage that
helps us understand that. No
passage in the New Testament even hints that Christians should “keep
kosher”.
In
Christ,
