Question:
Hi,
How
does God, according to Genesis and Exodus, gradually reveal Himselfto humankind
and how do human beings gradually realize who they are in relation to God and
what God expects of them. What is the biblical concept of who God is and who we are and
should be?
Thanks,
Adrien
Answer: Dear Adrien,
God
reveals Himself progressively, through the pages of
the Bible, culminating in the fact that He, in the person of Jesus, came
to us as one of us – to save us from our sins, and to do for us what we can
never do for ourselves. This
progressive revelation simply builds on itself.
For example, the one true God is always the one true God – but in the
Old Testament we do not know the Godhead as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We do in the New Testament.
God’s
plan is to communicate to us, primarily by the cross, that He loves us more than
we can ever comprehend. God wants
us to be His children, He wants to give us a new spiritual life, because of His
grace. He loves us unconditionally, not because of who we are or
what we do, but because of who He is and what has already been done.
The
difference between biblical Christianity and all other religions is that all
world religions are based upon legalism – and that is spelled D-O.
Christianity is based upon the finished work of Christ on the cross, and
that is spelled D-O-N-E.
Lots
more to say, but that’s a short answer.
In
Christ,
Greg
