Question:  Hi Greg,

I’m interested to know what is your stance on the “lordship salvation” debate?  I’m re-thinking my view on this one and I need your input.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

            Grace,

            Steve

Answer:  Dear Steve,

My short answer is this – some that teach lordship salvation seem to do so at the expense of grace.  It is true that Jesus is both Lord and Savior.  It is true that some see Jesus only as Savior, and fail to acknowledge him as Lord of their lives.  But lordship salvation, at least in the ways I have seen it preached and taught, is not always directing individuals to the Lord of their lives – but sometimes to humanly devised traditions and regulations.  In such cases lordship salvation is not-so-thinly-veiled legalism.

It is true that Jesus is Lord of all, and if he is not, he is not Lord at all.  It is also true that he is the Lord we would all choose if we only knew – for his Lordship includes the rest we all long for.  Perhaps the question to keep lordship salvation advocates biblically honest and Christ-centered is:  which “lord” are we talking about?

            In Christ,

            Greg Albrecht
