Question:  Hi Greg,

I have a friend who is of the Catholic faith.  She says that the virgin Mary never had any other children besides Christ.  Is this true?  If not, where would I prove this from scripture?

            Thank you,

            Joe

Answer:  Dear Joe,

Matthew chapter 13 records the reaction of people in Jesus’ hometown as they heard of Jesus’ wisdom, his teachings, and the miracle that he performed.

“When he came back to his hometown, they said, ‘Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers? they asked.  Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?  Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?  Aren’t all his sisters with us?’”  (Matthew 13:54-56)

            In Christ,

            Greg Albrecht
