Question:  In the Book of James he teaches us to ask for wisdom.  Why is it important that we ask in faith, nothing wavering?

            D’Andrea

Answer:  Dear D’Andrea,

It seems that the basic teaching James is sharing is that when we ask God for wisdom, we should do so without trying to force or re-shape his answer.  That is, do not ask God for wisdom and then limit him to the particular manner or way in which you will accept his answer.  Be willing to accept his answer if you ask, without doubt, in faith.  In addition, the idea is that if we ask, in this case for wisdom then we should be concerned about wisdom.  We should be looking for wisdom, open to wisdom, pre-disposed to wisdom – as opposed to asking for wisdom and then behaving and acting in foolish ways.  God will not force wisdom upon foolishness.

            Hope this helps.
