Question:  Dear Greg,

A good friend and I have a disagreement concerning the omnipresence of God.  He says God is not omnipresent and I say He is.  He gives as an example to prove his point that God does not live in the heart of an evil man.  I could not answer his objection.  Thanks for any help you can offer me.

            Sincerely,

            Ron

Answer:  Dear Ron,

The Bible says that God is present everywhere at the same time.  He is not someplace at one time while he is not somewhere else.  He is omnipresent. Psalms 139:7-10 and Jeremiah 23:23 speak to this.

Your friend notes that God does not co-exist with evil.  When the Bible speaks of God being omnipresent, it is speaking of one of his attributes.  Human actions or attitudes—by created humans—do not modify of change attributes of the eternal, uncreated God.  Of course God hates evil, and he is not “in” evil attitudes or actions, but our actions and attitudes do not change any of his attributes.

            In Christ,

            Greg Albrecht
