Question: Dear
Greg,
My 10-year old was told at school by other children that God is dead.
How do I explain to a 10-year old that God isn’t dead?
Lou
Answer: Dear
Lou,
The first response I would have would be to tell your child that those
who believe in God do not need to feel on the defensive with such a question.
That is, the responsibility to prove God’s death would be upon those
who say he is—rather than those who believe God exists.
Proofs of God’s existence are all around us.
The incredibly complex creation—flowers, leaves on trees, the vast and
complex interdependent eco-systems, etc., etc.
The stars in the sky, the planetary system, etc.
All of this and so much more is proof of a “higher power.”
The onus of proof is on someone who would try to deny that al of this
could have happened.
Our human skills and talents—another proof.
The human mind has been able to accomplish much.
We see the evidence of technology and advanced civilization everywhere.
If we are able to do all that we have, then there has to be a higher
power who created us, who is superior to and more powerful than we are.
Just a few ideas to get you started, Lou.
Your child does not have to be on the defensive on this issue.
In Christ,
Greg Albrecht
