Question:
Dear Greg,
Hypothetical
situation: I am a Christian, born again, etc., etc…and I sin.
How do you think God “reacts” to me as a Christian who sinned?
I understand his forgiveness and love and Christ’s blood, but what do
you think is God’s demeanor towards me, a Christian when I sin?
Does he only see Christ’s blood covering that sin and/or does he get
disappointed? What do you think?
My
wife grew up in a divorced home and she is just not sure how God sees her when
she sins and she feels defeated when she sins and thinks God is upset with her.
Thank
you for taking the time. If you don’t have the time just pray for me and that is
better than any answer you could give.
In
Christ,
Brett
Answer: Dear Brett,
The
words you use to frame your question are interesting, and might supply some
insight to you and your wife. You are concerned with God’s
“reaction”—“demeanor”—“disappointment”—you say that your wife
thinks God is “upset” with her.
We
will pray for you, Brett, and your wife, but in our opinion, you (and perhaps
your wife) need to ask God to help you understand him, and his grace.
Of course God doesn’t want us to sin.
Of course he would rather that we not sin, but we should not make the
mistake of measuring God by our own emotions and our own experiences with other
humans—Christian or not.
We
should thank God that he is God, and that we—or no other human—are not.
God loves us just as much right now as he ever has or as much as he ever
will. Our actions do not determine
how much God will love us. We
cannot manipulate him in any way. He
is who he is, and he loves us.
Our
radio program, “Plain Truth Commentary” has a series on the book of
Galatians available on cassette. It would be helpful to you.
Please
ask God to help you understand him, and the riches of his grace.
We will pray for you!
In
Christ,
Greg
