Question:  Dear Greg,

            What is the unpardonable sin?

            Ronald

Answer:  Dear Ronald,

There is no sin that cannot be pardoned according to the Bible.  However, the individual needs to ask for and seek a pardon and forgiveness.  The Bible does talk about someone who willfully decides not to seek forgiveness, someone who willfully sets himself or herself against God.  In the Gospels this is called blaspheming the power of the Holy Spirit, which in part includes a denial that God the Holy Spirit can or will forgive.

God is always ready to forgive.  That is what the gospel is all about.  One rule of thumb often used—if someone is concerned about committing the “unpardonable sin” they haven’t.  Let me know if you would like further explanation.

            In Christ,
