Question:
Dear Greg,
I’m
a little confused about how the cross that Jesus Christ was crucified on was
made. Was it two pieces of wood
that crossed like a “T”? Or was
it just one piece of wood standing up? Did Jesus have his arms in a vertical or in a horizontal
position?
Thank
you.
God
bless you,
Magdalena
Answer: Dear Magdalena,
No
one knows for sure. Usually two
versions are depicted: one with a “T” as you noted and the other simply a
pole or stake with a crosspiece almost like a capital “T”.
Again, in one case the idea is that his arms were extended, and in the
other case, over his head (still extended, but vertically, not horizontally).
The passage about the cross and crucifixion could appear to fit either.
In
Christ,
Greg
