Question: Dear Greg,

In light of the ecumenical movement, don’t you think Bible-believing Christians are sacrificing truth for unity?

Do you believe that the whore in Revelation represents the Roman Catholic Church? If not, why not? To me, that is the only religion that fits the description.

What do you think of Mary worship and of Mary being the “Co-Redemptrix”?

Irene

Answer: Dear Irene,

In terms of the ecumenical movement, it probably is true that some Christ-centered churches and Christians are sacrificing biblical truth and revelation simply to get along. On the other hand, at the opposite end of the ecumenical movement are small groups or movements that claim to be “the one and only true church”—an exclusive and arrogant claim in light of Bible teaching. No one church or movement owns the exclusive franchise to market God or the gospel on earth.

PTM does not believe that branding every Roman Catholic on earth as a “whore” is given to Christians as a charge. God can work in the lives of those he chooses—we do not need to condemn those in whose lives he may be working. On the other hand, PTM is firmly within the Protestant tradition. We believe that the Reformation was needed and that biblical teaching such as sola scriptura and sola fide, not to mention justification by faith alone, were being neglected by the Roman church. In most cases it seems they still are being neglected

PTM does not believe in Maryology. We do not believe that Mary was divine. Jesus alone saves, not Mary, not Moses, not anyone except Jesus, the Eternal Son of God, Lord and Savior.

In Christ,

Greg Albrecht
