Question:  Hi Greg,

What are your thoughts on alternative medication/therapies or holistic health?  My main concerns are with chiropractic, homeopathic and applied kinesiology.  Some friends, who are Christians (including my wife), are into this kind of thing.  I’ve done extensive research on this topic and found that Christians should stay away from this sort of thing because of its pagan origins.  I would be very grateful for your input into this.

Answer:  Dear Steve,

To my knowledge, neither chiropractic, homeopathy nor applied kinesiology is occultic or pagan—while I do not doubt pagan origins.  On the other hand, medical science has its own pagan background, as do many/most areas of study and discipline.

The physical—diet, health, exercise, notions, pills, and supplements—are not, according to the Bible, wrong of and by themselves.  Experience tells us, and history demonstrates that Christians in particular quickly lose focus when these kinds of things enter the picture in any significant way.  We humans find it hard to maintain our spiritual balance.  That is the record of history.  Our Lord and Savior is quickly replaced in favor of eating or not eating some food, manipulating some part of the body, taking some special organic supplement, etc.  For more, you might be interested in http://www.ptm.org/02PT/MayJun/wellville.htm.

            In Christ,
