Question:
Dear
Greg,
Is it not true that love, communication and trust starts in the home,
not in the church, but it should ultimately start with God?
I don’t feel that it should start in church.
Am I wrong?
Twanna
Answer:
Dear
Twanna,
In order to answer your question we need to clarify—love,
communication and trust—are you speaking of the human variety, apart from
God, or the love, communication and trust which is divine in origin and a gift
from God? (Galatians 5:22).
The love that is a fruit of the Holy Spirit can only come from God.
We love because he first loved us (1 John
If we are speaking of married love, of parental love, family love,
etc.—either in addition to the love God gives to us, or apart from divine
love, then ideally love should begin in our homes.
Parents and grandparents should give that love to the children and the
children learn to love from their parents.
It is not the job of the church to do what the family never has, or
should have in the beginning—although the church often has done a wonderful
job in helping people, giving them community, fellowship and a spiritual
family.
Hope this helps, Twanna.
In Christ,
Greg Albrecht
