The Ten Commandments are called the “ten words” in Hebrew and they
became, in their Greek equivalent, the Decalogue—the ten.
There is no indication that Moses received the Pentateuch, the first
four books while he was on Sinai. Much
of the history recorded in the Pentateuch had not yet occurred.
The Ten Commandments must be interpreted within the context of the old
covenant, for they are very much a part of it.
