Sylvia Brown, for example, claims to be able to communicate with the dead.
Does God allow this ability? As
I recall, the Bible says to stay away from psychics and witchcraft.
A person has to wonder about this. Could
you help me shed a little light on this topic?

Answer: Dear Steve,
The
Bible, as you state, condemns witchcraft or any “magical art” that presumes
to contact the dead. According to
the Bible, involvement in the occult, psychics and fortune tellers, et. al. is
not only forbidden, but can lead to much emotional instability and heartache.
Many passages testify to the above—1 Samuel 15:23; Galatians 5:20;
Isaiah 8:19 and 19:3; Exodus 22:18; Leviticus 19:31 and 20:6, 27; Deuteronomy
18:10,11.
