Question:   Dear Greg ,

Where is heaven and why can’t we see it or find it?

            Sherry

Answer:  Dear Sherry,

Heaven is not bound by space or time.  It is not a place.  We humans think only of space and time because we are captives of space and time.  Heaven is where God “is”—and it is not a place because God is everywhere, and not limited to space or time.  He cannot be somewhere at the exclusion of somewhere else.  For example, he hears hundreds of millions of prayers at the same time—his “switchboard” is never overloaded.

Heaven is being in God’s presence—whatever that means (and we humans don’t know exactly).  We like to talk about streets paved with gold, St. Peter by the gate, playing harps, etc.—but all of that is sheer speculation.  We will know God’s kingdom of heaven only when we inherit it, by his grace.

            In Christ,

            Greg Albrecht
