Question:  Dear Greg,

I am a born again Christian and believe in my salvation, yet sometimes I am filled with doubt about my worthiness.  My minister says that “Jesus is worthy” and I needn’t doubt.  However, sometimes I don’t feel the presence of the Holy Spirit.

            Can you help?

            Lorrie

Answer:  Dear Lorrie,

Doubts are part and parcel of being human.  We worry and second-guess ourselves and God.  We know who we are, what we have done, and how imperfect we are, and therefore often fall prey to the idea that God would never love us.  But that’s the amazing grace of the gospel.  God loves us not because we are loveable, or worthy to be loved, or because we deserve his love.  God does not love us because we are good, or only when we are good.  God loves us in spite of the way we are and who we are.  God loves us because he is good.

            In Christ,

            Greg Albrecht
