            Why was David not allowed to build the temple and why are Jerusalem and Bethlehem called the “city of David ”?

Answer:  Dear Tarrence,

            Solomon claims that David’s warfare disqualified him from building the temple (1 Kings 5:3).  2 Samuel 5:9 states that David called Jerusalem the City of David after he and his men overcame the Jebusites who lived there.  1 Samuel 16:1 states that David’s father, Jesse, was from Bethlehem.  Thanks for allowing PTM to be of service.
