Question:  Dear Greg,

1 Corinthians 6:3 mentions something like this, “we shall judge angels.”  Who is “we”?  Are there “bad” angels?  Who are these angels that need to be judged?

Answer:  Dear Iris,

Many interpret Revelation 12:4 to mean that Lucifer, who became Satan when he rebelled against God, influenced one-third of the created angels to follow him.

As for the passage in Corinthians, it is primarily an encouragement to Christians to avoid formal litigation against each other.  God’s justice will result in a sentence against Satan and these fallen angels, and the text suggests that in some way (no details are given) the saints, who will no doubt then be immortal and eternal by God’s grace, will participate in this judgment.  There are many ways to participate in judgment, of course—the courtroom involves witnesses, a jury, spectators, bailiffs, etc.—in addition to attorneys and a judge.

Thank you for allowing us to serve.

            In Christ,
