Question:  Greg,

I want to start going to church but I don’t know what denomination of church I should attend.  I was doing research on the differences between denominations, which is how I found your web site, and I couldn’t really find a simple answer.  Can you tell me what the differences are, or should I attend a non-denominational church?

Answer:  Dear Lindsey,

The key to choosing an appropriate church is not to start with a denomination, but with the congregation.  There are healthy and unhealthy churches within almost all denominations, so to give a blanket approval of all congregations in a denomination would not be wise or accurate.  Likewise, a community church that is non-denominational provides no guarantee that you will find a Christ-centered church either.

A healthy, well-balanced church is Christ centered, grace based and biblically grounded.  There are many hallmarks to look out for—in fact I give a long list in my book, “Bad News Religion”.

            In Christ,
