Question: .
How do we know that you are a true teacher of the words of Christ? How do I know our truth from the other truth's that are around? How do I know that maybe you are just one of the many pawns in this so-called games of religious conquest?
Haven't you ever wondered about the psychological aspects of religion? Picture this if you can...Many years before the birth of Christ, before the ancient cities of Babylon and Rome are erected man must have had a belief in something. Right? Maybe not a belief in a god personified as man but...a god personified in animals or the sun. Through the years man's awareness must have triggered some sort of "newer" concept that would fit their belief system to their daily lives.
So - here we go again trying to manipulate psychological thinking into religion in order for us to have that feeling of being watched over and taken care of. We as a human race will never achieve the "peace" we desire unless we shed our old system of belief. How do you feel about this subject? Any reply would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Answer:
I have studied the world religions, and am familiar with the construct that you present - i.e. that God is a necessary invention of the human mind and heart, of our fears, insecurities, etc.
Having studied these belief systems, I believe they are actually an attempt to deal with the reality of God - and are a flight from reality into denial.
We have, through the ministry of Plain Truth Ministries, excellent resources that speak to the issues(s) you raise - I would recommend "Know Why You Believe" by Paul Little - sample chapters - "Is Christianity Rational?" "Do Science and Scripture Agree?" "Does Christianity Differ from other World Religions?" "Is there a God?" - and many more. This is not a diatribe, but thoughtful dialogue. You may order this through our website, or any bookstore should be able to order it for you.
Hope this helps.
