Question:

The Bible states, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved". Well, I do believe in Christ with all my heart, but I am still not sure, is that all that is needed? Satan also believes in Christ.

Dave

Answer:

Hello Dave. There is a great deal more to that word "believe" -- in fact, the Bible also uses terms like trust and accept when speaking of our relationship to Jesus. Believing in, trusting in, and accepting Jesus Christ simply means that we come to the place where we know that what Jesus did on the cross on our behalf, his atoning work, was and is sufficient, complete, and enough.

Simply stated, believing in the Lord Jesus Christ means that you know that nothing you can do will earn you salvation, neither will anything you do keep you saved. God will never love you more than He does right now, and He will never love you less.

Believing in Jesus Christ is not easy -- some skeptics dismiss this act as "easy" and something that "anyone can do". In fact, it is the most difficult thing any human can do. When we commit to Him, we trust Him with our eternal life. We accept that He alone is worthy to save us, to justify us, to reconcile us. We not only accept Him as Savior, but we honor, worship, and obey Him as Lord. We must obey Him, for we are purchased with the precious price of His blood. We can do nothing less than follow and obey him, and look to no other God that Him. He must be the Lord of our lives if we believe in Him with all of our hearts.

Short answer -- if we really believe in Him with all of our heart, understanding and knowing what that means, we are saved. We have been given eternal life, and no one can take us out of His hand.

In Christ,
