Why are there two very different accounts of the death of Judas?

Matthew states that Judas hanged himself (Matthew 27:5) - the book of Acts records that he fell and his body burst open (Acts 1:18) - these accounts complement one another. Judas hanged himself and then his body fell on rocks below, bursting open.
