Rapture - Ask Greg! Questions

(CLICK on the Q/A: for full question and answer)

Q/A: I happened to catch you on the radio last night and you were essentially telling a questioner that there is no Rapture coming for the church.  My question is therefore multi-part: 1)  If there’s no catching away, what is 1 Thessalonians 4:17 talking about? 2) Do you believe in the coming of a 7-year Tribulation? 3) If so, do you see the existing church at that time going through that Tribulation and experiencing the same plagues and wrath as unbelievers? 4) If your answer to that is “yes”, how do you reconcile that with the fact that God (who is presumably the same yesterday, today and forever) has previously removed or protected his people before pouring out his wrath on unbelievers (Noah, Lot, and Israel living in Goshen during the plagues on Egypt)? 5) Since the wrath being poured out in Revelation is actually the wrath of the Lamb (Revelation 6:16 ), how unfair and unjust would it appear for Jesus, who claimed he was taking the punishment for our sins, to pour out punishment on those of us who trust in him? - John

Q/A: ... As far as I know, when the Rapture happens, all of Christ’s true church are lifted to heaven.  The ones that are left behind are the ones that were not following God’s laws.  Is that correct? - Vincent

Q/A: On a recent radio program you seemed to imply that belief in what many Christians call “The Rapture” is erroneous.  If I understood you correctly, then how do you explain 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, which, in part, states that “we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord”? - Pat

Q/A: Someone I spoke with a few days ago mentioned to me that the Rapture is mentioned over 200 times in the Bible.  How many times, if any, is the Rapture mentioned? - Ron

Q/A: I have read with interest many of your Q/A, especially concerning the Rapture.  I am a Pentecostal minister and of course believe in the pre-Tribulation Rapture and that it is biblically sound.  However, I can see why others believe differently and that their understanding is based on Scripture.  You are absolutely right though, that this issue need not divide.  We are all being conformed to the image of Christ despite our differences or even our possible error. God bless you. - Ken

Q/A: I found your website by accident one night and love it.  What you are trying to do by helping folks like us to understand the Bible.  We have been studying with a pastor who is on TV, and I have a couple of questions that I am confused about after listening to him.  Question #1: what was meant when Jesus was on the cross and his last words were, “It is done”?  The next question pertains to Matthew 24:19 when Jesus says in part “and woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!”?  I tried looking these things up on several sites, but couldn’t find anything pertaining to them. I would really appreciate your input.  One more question: is there, or is there not going to be a rapture?  I believe there is, but I’ve been told that this wasn’t going to happen.  Thank you very much for your help in understanding these things and God bless you and your ministry. - Nick

Q/A: My question is about the rapture.  I was saved and baptized in the Southern Baptist Church.  I now attend a community church in Pennsylvania. I watched John Hagee and Jack Van Impe when I was first saved.  They helped me a lot but now I have a doubt about the rapture of Christ’s church.  Most pastors I speak to have said that they feel we are in the last days.  I agree, but Jack Van Impe once said that because of the Jewish calendar he expects the timetable to be between 2007 and 2013.  God said, “No man shall know the day or the hour.” What is your learned opinion about the rapture?  My grandchildren are asking me about this and I want to speak the truth... - Denise

Q/A: Could there be two raptures that will take place?  A vertical and a horizontal?  A rapture of the church and a rapture of the Jews? 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven…to meet the Lord in the air.”  This would be a vertical rapture of the church. Matthew 24:31 “He shall send his angels.”  For the church he comes with the voice of the archangel and with “the trump of God.”  For Israel, he comes with “a trumpet.”  These are very distinctive descriptions of two different raptures.  One for the church and one for the Jews.  The one will lead to the clouds in the heavens and the other will lead to Jerusalem. - Chris

Q/A: My roommate and I have been discussing the views of salvation after the rapture. We are trying to understand if God lets anyone get saved after the rapture or does God harden the hearts of those who have been witnessed to and have rejected Jesus Christ. Is it true that only those who have not rejected Jesus Christ before the rapture can come to salvation after the rapture? Do you have a view on this subject matter? - Patricia

Q/A: I hope you’ve been well. I just wanted to let you know that we’ve been doing so much better. I took your advice and have been attending church, praying more often and reading the Bible. I’ve also been reading the "Left Behind" books by LaHaye and Jenkins. The authors propose that there will be a rapture of the saints before the tribulation begins. Do you know of any Bible scriptures that support this theory? - Cheryl

Q/A: What is the "rapture"? Do you think it will happen before, during or after the Great Tribulation? - Daniel
