A week ago today the impoverished nation of Haiti was hit by a massive 7.0 earthquake. Surviors, relief workers and news media speak of unprecedented devastation and apocalyptic destruction. Hundreds of thousands are in desperate need of food, shelter and medical help. The International Red Cross estimates that as many as 3 million people were affected by the temblor. Our thoughts and prayers here at PTM are with the Haitian people. As we believe the greatest need at this time is for medical and disaster relief, on behalf of our friends and Partners, PTM has made a donation to the Red Cross. While we appreciate the desire of many to donate to Haitian relief efforts, PTM is not equipped to receive donations specifically earmarked for disaster relief. Based on our understanding of their mission and effectiveness, PTM recommends donations to the following organizations that are active in Haitian relief efforts:
• Salvation Army
• American Red Cross
• Doctors Without Borders
• Mercy Ships
• Fuller Center for HousingDid Haiti deserve this earthquake?
Just as they did in the wake of Katrina, some televangelists are attributing the Haitian disaster to supernatural causes -- in this case a "pact with the devil."What? PTM on the "really bad theology" list?
